What does this calculator work out?

The tool uses visits above your baseline. For an online shop, it multiplies visits, purchase rate, order value and contribution margin. For services, it adds the step from enquiry to customer and uses your contribution per customer.

It then subtracts the monthly SEO costs you entered. All amounts relate to the same period and exclude VAT. The result is a scenario based on your inputs, not a forecast of extra traffic or customers.

The formula

ROI = (extra contribution − SEO costs) ÷ SEO costs × 100%

Break-even visits = SEO costs ÷ expected contribution per visit, rounded up. With zero conversion or zero contribution, there is no finite break-even point in the scenario.

Shop example: 1,000 extra visits × 2% purchases × €150 order value × 40% margin = €1,200 contribution. After €499 in costs, €701 remains: around 140.5% ROI and a break-even point of 416 visits.

Which figures should you enter?

Use the margin after relevant variable costs. For services, include only the expected contribution from a customer you win. Spread one-off project costs over the chosen evaluation period if you want to include them in the scenario.

Test several assumptions. A change in conversion can make a bigger difference than extra traffic. Download your scenario and compare it with measured enquiries or purchases later.
